The status messages you see when you apply for NSFAS funding and check your NSFAS status are as follows:
Application submitted
The NSFAS system has been loaded with your application
Filtering
Returning students and students with previous qualifications are checked by the system
Validation
NSFAS conducts third-party checks with SASSA/the Department of Home Affairs
Evaluation
All documents you sent during the application process are verified
Funding Eligibility
Their purpose is to verify the financial status of your household as stated in your application
Successfully Funded
You have successfully completed the funding process and your application has been processed. You can register and attend Classes
Awaiting confirmation of academic admission to be eligible for funding
Having qualified for funding, but not yet receiving confirmation from an institution, means you are eligible for funding. Funding will not be approved until admission has been confirmed. You need to inform institution’s Financial Aid Office
Third-party verification of household income
In other words, NSFAS is still verifying that the student’s household income is below the R350 000 threshold with credit bureaus.
There is no need to take action. Upon approval of funding and confirmation of academic admission, a message will be sent.
Awaiting Evaluation
To ensure that all information on the application has been correctly captured, a case worker at NSFAS needs to review the application.
The best thing you can do is wait. There is no need to take action. When funding is approved and academic admission is confirmed, a message will be sent.
Application Unsuccessful
Applicants who receive this message have household incomes above R350 000 and are therefore rejected. Applicants with previous qualifications are not eligible for NSFAS. The applicant has not been accepted to a university or TVET college.
Unfortunately, you were not successful in obtaining funding from NSFAS. The appeal process is available to you.
